Risa Woo is a former Senior Deputy Prosecutor with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In her 12 years as a prosecutor, Ms. Woo tried nearly 100 cases to verdict before a jury. The majority of these cases were violent crimes, domestic violence, and sexual assault charges. Throughout her career she has honed her skills as a trial attorney and conducted trainings for deputy prosecutors in her office. Her willingness to go to trial on difficult cases earned her a reputation as a fierce yet thoughtful advocate. Ms. Woo now aims to continue to assist victims who have been abused, neglected, or exploited by those who were entrusted with their care and protection.

Ms. Woo also devotes some of her time to pro bono activities focused on advocacy for victims of sexual assault and physical abuse as well as working with underserved populations throughout King County. From providing legal services to volunteer coaching youth sports, Ms. Woo has dedicated her life to serving the local community.

Representative Matters

  • State of Washington v. Michael Phillips: The first trial in King County of a child rapist where the predatory sentencing enhancement was proven to the jury resulting in a mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.
  • State of Washington v. Azazhi Yohannes: The prosecution of a man who abused his wife repeatedly during their marriage and brutally raped her in the presence of their young son.
  • State of Washington v. Idris Turner: The prosecution of a child abuser who beat his victim so severely that she suffered permanent partial blindness, brain injury, and post traumatic stress disorder.
  • State of Washington v. Philip Baldwin: The prosecution of a serial rapist who attacked several women before being identified and apprehended by police.
